Anarkali is a type of upper wear that is completely fit till the blouse area or waist area; this part of the attire is called choli. Further, a wide cloth made with a combination of a lot of right triangles stitched together is attached to choli which ends up giving a long frock type look. The length of an Anarkali suit is always between ankle to floor length. Anarkali is a three-piece suit, a gorgeous combination of churidar pyjama, dupatta, and Anarkali upper itself. Churidaar pyjama is a slim and fit legging made up of cotton or synthetic cloth. Dupatta can be taken in several different styles like wrapping it from back then hanging it on both the arms in front or one-sided dupatta hanging on the shoulder, half at the backside, and a half at the front side.
Anarkali suit has a lot of history behind it. The Mughal emperor Akabar had a courtesan in his court who used to dance (nritya) for the evening entertainment of the royal people. She was so beautiful, adorable, appealing, charming, fascinating that she was given the name Anarkali. Anarkali means pomegranate flower, a beautiful pom-pom-like delicate deep orange blossom on a graceful tree. When she used to do nritya in court, she wore the type of outfit described above so this outfit gained its popularity after her name and hence was named after her. Since that time the Anarkali suit has been worn by Indian girls as ethnic attire for some traditional occasions. With a view to the present scenario, it is worn by both Pakistani and Indian girls.
Anarkali suits are made from different types of fabrics like embroidered cloth/sequinned fabric, glitter fabric, lame, silk satin/silk charmeuse, brocade, peau de soie silk, and there are many more.
The style of Anarkali suits had evolved as before it was only a frock like the long outfit, but with the time the long shrugs are added to the mesmerizing look. The shrug is made of georgette net with lace ( gota) on the bottom.
Anarkali suits are not available in low range. The range of Anarkali suits starts from ₹5000 and goes till ₹25000. So it is not affordable for all. But no doubt Anarkali suit brings out a charming, elegant, stunning yet comfortable look.
